Who qualifies in England and Wales
On the qualifying date of 23 August 2026, all three of these must have been true:
your energy supplier takes part in the scheme
someone in your home got Pension Credit, income-related Employment and Support Allowance, Housing Benefit or Universal Credit
that person, their partner or their legal representative is named on the electricity bill
How you get it
Usually automatically: the government matches benefit records with supplier records. If it can't confirm you qualify, it writes to you and asks you to call the Warm Home Discount helpline.
Prepayment meters: you can still get it. Your supplier will tell you how, for example a top-up voucher.
Scotland: the rules are set separately, and you may need to apply to your supplier.
Check it reached your bill
The discount appears as a £150 credit on your electricity account. If you qualify and it hasn't appeared by the end of winter, contact your supplier.
