Mid-contract price rises: your rights

The short answer

Since 17 January 2025, any price rise in a new phone or broadband contract must be set out in pounds and pence when you sign. Rises linked to inflation, or given as a percentage, are banned in new contracts.

When you can leave without a fee

If your provider raises the price in a way your contract didn't set out, it must give you notice and let you leave without an exit fee. Act within the time limit stated in the notice.

Account [number]. My bill dated [date] shows a monthly price of £[X]. My contract, signed [date], sets the price at £[Y] [with a rise of £Z in April]. Please explain the difference and refund any overcharge. If this rise isn't in my contract, please confirm I can leave without an exit fee.
