Business energy has no price cap, so mistakes and poor-value contracts cost more. Four checks catch the most common problems; our business checker is coming soon.

Four checks
The right VAT rate. Businesses usually pay 20%. Very low users, charities and care homes that qualify for the reduced rate pay 5%, and 0% on electricity used from 1 October 2026 to 31 March 2027.
Climate Change Levy. It applies to most business energy; some uses are exempt.
Out of contract? Out-of-contract and "deemed" rates are usually much higher than a new contract.
Broker commission. If a broker arranged your contract, ask what it earns. Ofgem expects brokers to explain this, and those serving small businesses must belong to an approved dispute scheme.
Your protections
Microbusinesses are protected from back-bills for energy used more than 12 months ago and can use the Energy Ombudsman.
Commission on business energy starts only once MyBillChecker has joined an approved dispute scheme. Until then, this page collects waitlist sign-ups.
